What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is the system of marketing where by a person promotes a product or service owned or created by someone else to an audience or individual who is in need of it to solve his problems.
This is how it works, you stumble on a product that works for you, be it an health related product like rheumatoid cure.
Maybe it cost $1000 for example.
You reach out to the owners of these product and get an affiliate link of the product, promote it to people who are suffering from this sickness.
And get paid in 5% commission, that's $50 from the $1000, here everyone is happy, the owner of the product has made a sale, you're paid in commission, and the buyer get cured of his disease.
Commission can be as high as 50% to 85% for digital products and from 40% below for physical products.
This is an oldest form of marketing which has always been on existence before the introduction of the internet.
However, many have abuse this business which prompted me to write this blog post.

What Is the difference between Affiliate Marketing and Network Marketing?
One of the mistakes people make is calling ‘network marketing’ affiliate marketing.
These two concepts are different, most times some of you will buy an affiliate marketing course, after all the sugarcoating and persuasion.
You bought the course only to find out that the course is useless and the only way you have to make money via this course is to get another victim to buy from you
This is indirectly network marketing and not affiliate marketing.
Multi Level Marketing is a kind of business where you refer people to join a company or a platform, and they recruit others.
So you make money when you refer people and these people pay registration fees to join and you benefit from your referrals.
3 ways to spot Network Marketing (MLM)
When you're told to pay a registration fee to enable you earn in commission, run.
If the focus is on referring new people before you can cash out, and not selling products or services. it’s an MLM.
If the platform coerces you to purchase their products before selling them, it’s a pyramid scheme.
How People Are Abusing Affiliate Marketing (And Ruining Its Reputation)
There are some people that if you mention that a you're an affiliate marketer to them in their DM, they will block you with the speed of light.
Is not their fault, it is due to fact that they have been scammed in the past with this same keyword bro.
Affiliate marketing was once a reputable business but now scammers have taken over the whole thing.
I believe you have seen many of these so called gurus with mouthwatering promises like:
Make $5000 by just copying and pasting my same strategy.
Make passive income in autopilot.
In reality, you will also be recruited to sell this course too because it has now value apart from selling it to make money.
The info in the course is useless except you market the garbage to another downline.
Making it network marketing or MLM.
This practice give affiliate marketing a bad name.
What's The Right Way to Do Affiliate Marketing (Without Being a Scammer)
These are useful strategies and tips you should consider if you want to do affiliate marketing the right way;
1. Promote Problem Solving Products or Service (Not High-Paying Junk)
Many affiliates promotes any course they see in the marketplace provided the commission is high and is toping the chart with sales.
Don't forget fake courses also get high number of sales too, with unhappy customers who only realized they were scammed.
Why not study your audience, find a deep problem they have in a particular niche (niching is very important if you must succeed in affiliate marketing).
Diligently search for a solution that you trust enough to work for your audience even if the commission is low.
When people's problem are solved, the revenue will always keep rolling in because?
There will always be new people who will encounter such problem day by day in your niche.
Your old audience will organically refer your brand to others in need.
The golden rule is that, do not promote what you wouldn't buy.
2. Build Trust First, Sell Later
I see a lot of beginners going from one facebook group to the other spamming their affiliate links to people who may not even be interested.
If there's nothing you have gotten from this post, at least you should be able to get this one point to your subconscious.
Affiliate marketing is for those who commands high level of trust and have a good number of audience.
This is a number game. You need to build a loyal audience over time via content creation or blogging in a particular niche.
Get them into your email list or whatsapp contact list, send them non promotional emails or messages, ask them about their deepest struggles concerning a particular niche your content revolves in.
Send them problem solving affiliate products and make sales.
You must be able to make people know you, that's visibility, love you, that's consistent content marketing, before they can trust you enough to buy.
Why not start a blog, or a youtube channel and publish helpful content on a niche you are passionate about.
People love buying from a credible source, establish yourself as the authority.

3. Focus on Long-Term, Be Consistent And Not Quick Cash:
Affiliate marketing is not for you if you have a survival mindset, a mindset that I need fast money.
💯 It is for those with an entrepreneur mindset, you will have to build an audience first if you don't have one.
💯 Find their deepest struggles
💯 Search and test a problem solving Product or service before recommendation.
💯 Make use of SEO and social media platforms that favours you to build long term traffic.
Most successful affiliate marketers chase building a long term brand that last instead of quick cash.
Final Verdict: Is Affiliate Marketing Legit?
Affiliate marketing is not the problem here, scammers are the problem.
Affiliate marketing when done correctly is not a scam.
